We must assume that you have either a bath a shower or both in your home. If you have a bath and shower they may both be stand alone or you may have a shower over a bath.
When you do come to change around your bathroom or bathrooms and / or shower room you may well want to change what options you have, or you may simply want a new better bath or shower.
With showers over baths many leave a lot to be desired: usually they are fixed from a mixer tap that serves both shower and bath. The pressure can be poor and the other problem is often that if you have hot water that is stored in a tank you could well either run out during your shower or you could have someone else turn on the hot water elsewhere and freeze you: or for that matter use the cold tap and scorch you. In this case you will be best off with a shower over a bath that has a separate water supply and its own instant water heater: this means what ever water does come through will always be the same temperature. Add a pump as well and you can guarantee good water pressure as well that can make your shower nice and powerful to blast away the dirt and ease tired muscles after a long hard day. Add to this a screen instead of a curtain and your shower is just as good as a separate cubicle shower; a curtain can easily get caught and lets water out, .
In some ways though a shower over the bath may not be quite right for you; if you have trouble getting in and out of the bath you will have trouble getting in and out of a shower over a bath so you may want an easy access shower cubicle. The other advantage such a shower has is that it enables you to have more than one shower head to make sure you get your entire body covered in water rather than just parts of it at any time. The main advantage with a easy access shower though is that it is much easier to use if you have certain disabilities that make climbing into a bath difficult or standing up for long periods of time difficult. Many easy access showers also have fold-down seats once you get in to make things easier. Even compared to a standard shower cubicle with a raised tray an easy access shower isn’t raised so you can step straight in or even wheel yourself in on a wheelchair. Being in a wheelchair can take away a lot of independence and getting an easy access shower is just one way to get it back.
Going back to baths if you do decide you want a new bath you will have a few choices to make, you may be limited by space but a nice deep roll top bath with claw feet is a great looking thing to have. A Roll top bath is also very pleasurable if you are a fan of baths but struggle to fit into one that is a standard size. Of course deep roll top baths are more difficult to get into and out of but you may find it worthwhile. Many rolltop baths are cast iron or steel with enamel on but with standard baths you will have to choose a material. There are several choices each with advantages enamel is hard wearing and keeps its shine but chips, plastic is cheap and easily damaged and porcelain looks good at first but can become rough when its protective coating goes. Fibreglass may be the longest lasting and should stay shining for a long time.
